Kamel Mallat is Head of ALM and Research Analytics at Railpen, where he leads the development of the organisation’s analytical engine for understanding the interaction between assets and pension liabilities. He has over twelve years of experience delivering advanced modelling and risk analytics for pension schemes, insurers and asset managers, supported by a strong academic foundation including a PhD in Physics.
Kamel’s team builds and maintains Railpen’s ALM and research analytics framework, covering long-term projections, balance sheet modelling and strategic research that supports scheme strategy and funding decisions. The function also oversees the daily monitoring of key ALM metrics, providing timely insights into funding level movements, hedging effectiveness, balance sheet risks and short-term pressures created by market conditions. These analytics are used by Trustee Fiduciary Services and Client Portfolio Management as core inputs into strategic advice and portfolio design.
Under Kamel’s leadership, ALM and Research Analytics provides the organisation with a central hub for rigorous modelling, strategic research and decision support. The team produces analytical inputs that support the strategic asset allocation, LDI positioning, funding risk management and long-term portfolio construction. Their work strengthens Railpen’s ability to understand member outcomes and align investment strategy with scheme objectives.
Kamel is leading the evolution of Railpen’s modelling and research platform through the use of advanced analytics and responsible AI. His focus includes automation of core modelling workflows, enhancement of data and research infrastructure and deeper insight generation across funding, strategy and risk. He is a qualified FIA actuary and holds master’s degrees in Actuarial Science and Physics.
